Dana officials, union leaders: We're still talking
Willie Campbell, president of United Steelworkers Local 7-113, said the union and Dana executives are still involved in negotiations regarding the Marion plant's fate, and could not comment on reports that plans are being floated to move jobs to Mexico.

"We're trying to put together a concession package for the bankruptcy court for their approval," Campbell said. "All the locals in Dana Corp. are involved. We're at the table right now."

Employee Frank Chester said Wednesday afternoon that plant officials said 250 layoffs could happen over several years, and that buy out offers would be extended to some of the plant's 340 hourly workers.

The plan includes moving those jobs to facilities in Mexico, Chester said.

"It doesn't make sense to me, why they'd shut down a plant that makes money and keep others open that don't," he said.

Dana Corp. has been embroiled in a federal bankruptcy case, and officials from the company and two unions have been negotiating the fate of labor contracts as part of that legal proceeding.

Union members still have to vote on the proposal, Campbell said. After meeting with third-shift employees Wednesday, he said he's heading back to Detroit for more talks.

Sam Simons, the plant's general manager, also declined to comment.

"I'm not able to disclose anything further on that matter," he said.

If it makes anybody feel any better the six plants Dana has in paris, Tennessee is going down the tubes also.  They have already cut our benefits and working on our wages.  We have no union to try to help us out,  so, we're just at they and God's mercy.  Believe me when I say they are taking full advantage of the situation.  Yesterday we had a boiler to explode.  It blew out most of the side of the building at the extrusion plant here.  We had ambulances, most all of the  police force and was still made to work as they airlifted a maintence tech, which was burned over 75% of his body.  They expected us to act as if nothing happened as they were picking up  concrete that was blown over in from the explosion in two other parking lots.  Neither would they tell us of the condition of the injured employee.
I'm glad you people have a union and are fighting so hard.  I just wish we had someone with balls on our side fighting for us.  GOODLUCK!
